About the Book

Although Dr. Baker has desired to write “The Milk of the Word” for close to thirty years, it is not until recently that the Holy Spirit has given him the go ahead to fulfill his desire.  Although the book is aimed at helping new Christians understand some of the basic doctrinal concepts of the Christian faith, questions asked Dr. Baker over the years have shown that even long time Christians will find this book interesting and informative.

The book starts out by examining logically, historically, scientifically, prophetically and with respect to its self accreditation, why the Bible is a trustworthy and inerrant source of information concerning the Creator of the Universe and His relationship to all of us.  Having once established the credibility of Scripture, Dr. Baker uses Scripture as the foundation for the remainder of the book, frequently referencing and in many cases quoting Scripture to support the information presented.

Chapters 2 through 5 are concerned with the creation of man and how he is different from the animals, birds and sea creatures created by God.  They explore the nature of God and explain in a simple straight forward manner the concept of the Trinity.  They explain the nature of the God/Man, Jesus Christ, emphasizing how He is similar to all of us and showing how He is distinctly different from all other men, making Him the one and only answer to the sin predicament of mankind.  Finally these chapters tell about the creation of angels, demons, and Satan, describe the spiritual appearance of these beings, and explain the positions they hold in the universe and their activities.

Chapters 6 through 7 explain the process of human death and describe at length what each of us can expect to experience at our death.  The same type of information is provided for our eternal future existence, including how our death experience will be different from the experience of those who died before Jesus Christ returned to His Father in Heaven.  These chapters also explain clearly the sin predicament of mankind, its significance, and why only through Jesus Christ could the solution to that sin predicament be provided.

Chapter 8 discusses why Christians often find Christianity to be a burden and miss out on the abundant life that Jesus Christ came to provide for them – not only an abundant life eternally existent into the future, but an abundant, life here and now.  It examines the resources Jesus Christ has made available to assure us of that abundant life and discusses how to appropriate those resources to permit us to enjoy that life style today.

Chapter 9 explores the history of various church ordinances such as the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, fasting, foot washing, communion, and baptism.  It explains how and why these ordinances should be practiced and discusses some deviations from the Biblical patterns, which are practiced in churches today.
