They''ve flown softly and freely when peacetime''s Chinook blows!
They''ve been tossed about wildly in the rage of encroaching foes!
Through dark and perilous hours when the sun was out of sight,
At times when we faced a turbulent, uncertain plight,
They''ve hung motionless, reflecting "watchful waiting,”
While in the White House and Capitol, our anxious leaders were debating.
The right decision seemed to come when the crisis was at its height!
By the grace of God, our flags have waved, triumphant, through the night!

War is a dragon fell:
A horror hot from hell,
A monster without mercy or restraint.
By night, it is a winged terror;
By day, an all-engulfing fury.
Wherever it glides, it brings desolation
And dark despair, while little men fight,
And great men strive, and most men pray.

About the Book
Instead of an "ivory tower" as a protected place in which to escape life, I prefer a pyramid symbol, which the Egyptians associated with immortality, our ultimate goal. The diminishing size also suggests the need for priorities and perspective. This poetry collection includes light-hearted verses about everyday things, serious discussions of environmental and political issues, and religious and spiritual themes. I hope you will discover peace and perspective as you journey up the “ivory pyramid.”
