About the Author

Ronald G. Laes was a Coastguardsman in the Vietnam era.

He is a founding member of the Department of       Homeland Security.

As Administrative and Training Officer for the HI-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team, (a division of the National Disaster Medical System and the U.S. Public Health Service) since 1998, he has had extensive training in the operational aspects of emergency response to disasters and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Mr. Laes has been the liaison for DMAT HI-1, assisting in emergency planning for natural and industrial disasters, WMD incidents, and bio-terrorism with State and County Emergency and Health agencies in Hawaii. On September 11, 2001, he was preparing a WMD Medical Strike team for training in Hawaii.

Ronald lives with his family on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He continues to work within the Disaster Preparedness community.
