About the Book
CONNECTING TO GRIEF
COPING WITH GRIEF
CONQUERING GRIEF
CONTINUING LIFE WITHOUT GRIEF
“Here lies my teacher;
Here lies my companion;
Here lies my friend.
I was blessed to have known him
And have him leave his imprint on my life –
My Scotty.”
Some people walk in and out of your life while others leave their mark.
We''re always seeking something else, passing the gift of friends so dear.
I was blessed to have you as a friend with whom I''d grown so close.
To you my friend, I''d like to say your friendship meant the most.
As I share this thought with you you''ll know it''s from my heart.
Your gift to me was priceless – the value of infinity.
How happy I was to have known you and now life''s empty without you.
I pray the Lord to keep you until we re-connect.
We must learn the mistakes of others, as life doesn''t give a second chance.
The circle of friends should be endless as in no beginning and no end.
Our yesterdays are now our history; tomorrow is strictly a mystery.
Seize today and simply say ...
Friends you and me, from now through all eternity.
Stephen Paul Tolmie
About the Author
Although I have written a previous book called ‘NOW YOU HAVE HER… NOW YOU DON''T...’ which explores a widower’s personal walk through grief, I have attempted in this book to create a fictional character who deals with what I precede to call the four ‘C’s’ of grief:
CONNECTING TO GRIEF
COPING WITH GRIEF
CONQUERING GRIEF
CONTINUING LIFE WITHOUT GRIEF
As a short story I have tried to indicate how this man works his way through these four elements. I have also attempted to create some poetry to add some human emotional touch and to show its impact on his life. This is an effort to show how it reduces the very meaning of life to an almost non entity as he temporarily walks away from his present world to an unknown world. This new world of the homeless is one where people are unloved, uncared for and often unrecognized as human beings who only seem to exist, but don''t count in society''s standards.
My fictional character is there to try and cope with life- to help heal him and search for some actual meaning for his life. Although, this may seem extreme, it obviously is not everyone''s course of action - chosen or otherwise. However it proves to be a ''Means To An End'' where he can put things in perspective ...in his own time...in his own way ... using his own logic to delve into his inner being. This then is a means to rediscover himself, his worth, his needs, his desires, and his wants.
I felt in written this book that I had somehow taken on that fictional character''s life. I was feeling his pain, his despair, his loneliness, and indeed his almost chosen path to depression which as I have indicated is ''A FOOL''S PATH TO FOLLOW.''
Always remember that a piece of your heart has been taken away and will always be with your spouse. Your love for your spouse is forever and your thoughts will always keep them in a special place within your heart.
