About the Book

Due to ever advancing technologies, employment situations and the work done today are unlike that of our grandparents. Yet most job interviewing practices, advise and objectives are stuck in their past. Those thoughts, motivations, values, aspirations and attitudes that we carry to work are seldom typical anymore. We’re not smarter today but we do process much more information beyond “the job”. So what’s really relevant in today’s interview? This book is the first to breakdown the interviewing process in detail from the standpoints of employer, interviewer and applicant. Showing why misplaced assumptions, behaviors and biases by either are a disservice to all. And despite such differences, what each can do to better advance their personal business agendas in meaningful ways. Are you looking to hire or seeking employment? Paid work is not a personal favor but is simply a mutual business obligation--period. Newer insights for today’s employment and job interviewing practices are now readily available.

About the Author

S.H.C. Owen's employment exposures have encompassed private enterprises and government sectors in the U.S. and abroad. For over thirty-five years, he has worked many roles in labor, management, and professional positions with both service and production organizations. Mr. Owen a Michigan native and resident earned a B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Instructional and Human Performance Technologies (HPT) from Wayne State University. What is HPT and what do those educated in this field do? The HPT professional uses acquired knowledge, skills, tools, resources and the specific expertise of others to narrow gaps in human performances from an environmental perspective. Psychologists work in a similar fashion but focus primarily on the individual not the bigger organizational picture. Generally, that picture for the HP technologist includes: management, workers, customers, processes, policies, roles, interactions and objectives. Improving human performances through critical analysis, assessment(s), intervention(s) and evaluations is the HPT’s work. Seeing specific improvement, if the prescribed intervention(s) are implemented as written is the HPT consultant’s service guarantee. Mr. Owen’s book is a comprehensive analysis and intervention for improving the job interviewing process and the performances’ of all involved in it. Currently enjoying retirement, he and wife of almost forty years have raised four children. A diverse and well-seasoned background, that lends a mature, credible and broad perspective to his book's content.
