About the Book
Ginny was awakened by the sound of a motorcycle coming through the apple orchard. "Where am I going to hide? Maybe they are coming back to see if I''m dead!" She crawled around to the back of the tree pressing her body tightly against it. She held her breath; she must not make a sound. Her heart was beating so hard she was sure whoever was there would hear it. "Oh God, please help me now" she prayed. The motorcycle passed close by the tree, turned and made a circle around the house. "Oh no, they are coming back," she held her breath once again and tried to listen for some sound. "It stopped, it stopped.!" Ginny felt she would pass out, her head was spinning. "What if they saw me?" She clung to the tree, digging her long fingernails into its bark.
"Hey Missy, whatcha doing hanging onto that tree? Don''t move an inch," said the old man while holding his shotgun just a few feet away from her hiding place. One loud blast from his gun almost deafened Ginny. Screaming as loud as she could and shaking all over, she realized she had not been the target.
