Where will the children play Where will the children play? After all the gunfire and dismay. Where will the children play? Once all the tanks have driven away. Where will the children play? After all the germ warfare. What is it you will say? With all the wreckage across the bay. Where will the children play? All the fighting has to cease. We must teach our future soldiers peace. Because what is it you will say? When the children ask you where should we play? When smoke covers our skies of blue. What will we tell them to do? When everything is covered in soot. And they can’t even walk barefoot. I wonder what it is you will do on this day. I ask again” Where will the children play?” The Great I Am I sent you the moon to walk by in the night. I gave you the stars as a special light. I gave you the plush green grass for beneath your feet. From the beginning there was no deceit. I gave you a golden sun to warn your day. I gave it all to you, what can I say. I gave you flowers for an aroma that was so sweet. I gave you sun sets that couldn’t be beat. I gave you a generation of angels to be by your side. And yet you still try to hide. My name is not George, Larry, or Sam. I am simply “The Great I Am”. The Drunk He walked through the door stinking of gin. He looked at me and gave me a smurky grin. He opened his mouth to tell me another lie. I could always tell, I could see it in his eye. He pulls out of his pocket a ten. He hands it to me and says keep quite again. He broke his promise like so many times before. Does he love me I’m not even sure. He stumbles into his room with a half smile on his face. Sometimes I wish he would get the hell out of this place. He mumbles something and slams the door. Then I heard him fall to the fl oor. But he didn’t get sick this time. I think drinking ought to be a crime. He always treats me like some kind of punk. I guess it don’t matter because he’s just a drunk.
