About the Book
English and Spanish live side by side in Ten Little Angels, a simple counting book that builds on the familiar rhythm of a well-loved nursery rhyme and captivates young listeners with a happy, positive, loving message. The bilingual text accompanies charming, innocent folk art of angel children outside with birds and animals, playing by the pond or holding hands.
Illustrations are by North Carolina folk artist Addie James, the text is composed by her friend, Ruth Pittard, and the Spanish translation is by Dr. Magdalena Maiz-Pena of Davidson College. All three people value cross-cultural communication that emphasizes our loving common bonds and hope that this simple book in two languages will teach our inter-connectedness.
About the Author
Addie James, 62, is an artist who lives in Statesville, North Carolina, trying to support herself on disability and her art. She believes that God is good and that people can bridge gap with laughter and love.
Ruth Pittard, 59 is currently retired from thirty years as a college assistant dean for community service, taking a year off to decide what is next in her life. She believes also that God is good and that as children of God we are all meant to be connected to one another through love on earth.
Ruth bought Addie’s art four years ago at Merrill-Jennings gallery in Davidson, NC, they met, and they have been a team since then, writing children’s books, mentoring each other, laughing a lot and loving each other through easy and hard times. They have even been known to dance for joy in each other’s presence.
This is the fourth story they have produced together and they believe it is watched over by the angels in the book.
