How Do You Hide a Dinosaur?

The ground shook viciously.  The cave interior began to crumble around them as if the walls were sweating rocks. Randall reached for his sister. He grabbed her right arm with his left hand and tried to direct the flashlight, gripped tightly in the other hand, in Sherry’s direction.  Suddenly, Randall felt his feet slipping.  The arm which held his sister stretched out until the elbow locked in place.  That’s when he realized the earth was opening up beside him and Sherry was slipping into a giant, jagged crevice.

            “Randall!” Sherry screamed as her body fell into the crack in the cave’s floor.  Randall lost his balance and landed on his side. He still clutched his sister’s arm. The muscles in his forearm stretched tightly.

            Sherry grabbed the edge of the crevice with her free left hand while feeling her brother’s hold weakening.  Randall’s hand slipped down Sherry’s upper arm past her elbow.  He dropped his flashlight and reached his now free hand toward Sherry. He squeezed her forearm with both hands.  Randall was aware that he was being pulled toward the crevice by his sister’s weight. Frantically he began sweeping his legs in the darkness along the cave floor until he felt a large boulder on which to anchor his feet. His hold on Sherry’s arm was weakening once again.

            “I’m falling!” groaned Sherry, her voice trembling.
