About the Author
Since 1980, William A. Phelan has successfully fought and overcome four different episodes of Head and Neck cancer. During this journey of survival, he has undergone numerous surgeries to his body to combat the onslaught of the malignancies, especially the physical and emotional effects of facial disfiguration.
Throughout his twenty-five year struggle with cancer, long distance running has been a constant source of physical therapy and emotional stability for Mr. Phelan. In this intensely intimate and poignant work of non-fiction, he chronicles his travails with the disease, his experiences with this grueling sport and also reveals how running has sustained him in his periods of recovery from cancer.
