About the Book
Emily meets Sam at Sloan alternative school. Rebellion against authority expels both from public school setting. Emily is determined to live her life HER way sans interference from adults especially any guidance from God! Sam’s problem; school is a bore! Perpetual absenteeism, his escape.
Emily discovers life without adult supervision dangerous. Under attack in the classroom, her money stolen, assignments destroyed etc., she yearns for adult protection. Emily meets Sam, is unimpressed. Later, he becomes her crutch; she can depend on him to maintain her sanity. With changed attitudes and resolution to finish their course, Emily and Sam emerge stronger and more focused re their future.
At a church sponsored New Year’s party they meet. A Happy New Year’s kiss sends Sam into orbit. He’s in love; declares his love for Emily. Returning to Yale determined to call Emily, forgets his promise. They meet again at the next New Year’s party. Sam watches as another guy kisses Emily. Distraught, Sam has his work cut out if he’s to win back his Emily.
About the Author
Catherine entered Eastern MI University in 1969 as a freshman; graduating in 1973
Gilbert died in 1992 in South Carolina where Catherine still resides. She tutored students with reading problems until macular degeneration took its toll on her eyesight. Her first publication was a journal delineating their experiences in church building. This was published in 1994. Her second book “Peter falls for Nessie” was published in 2005. It is a family book; a young lad encounters Nessie the monster. He is acclaimed and subsequently defamed. Her second book “Em 'n Sam” is a story of teen struggle with spiritual demands in an undisciplined world. The main protagonists fall in love in a most unlikely setting.
