Fear of Death
While in a quiet, restful sleep,
Where peace and silence flow;
A sudden burst of energy,
Overwhelmed my soul.
I plunged, in terror, wildly blind,
And fear took all control;
I trembled, thinking I would die,
And then, I just let go.
Then a brilliant, awesome light,
Appeared and I grew calm.
When I awakened to the night,
My fear of death was gone.
God is Lord of All
God is pure light energy
within the universe.
There is no place he cannot be,
no matter where we search.
Before the thought of God appeared,
His will created sound.
He always travels everywhere
but never moves around.
God is Lord of all.
God is pure love energy
within the cosmic word.
He stares out from eternity
and contemplates the world.
Hell and heaven count the time
supposing loss and gain.
Yet, every thought form of the mind
can help the soul to change.
God is Lord of all.
God is pure infinity
beyond where logic rules.
He forms the secret strategies
for those He wants to use.
Every speck of consciousness
will turn to light some day.
The God alone is last and first:
A lonely child at play.
God is Lord of all.

About the Book
Like a beautiful flower with no fragrance, poems about God are often meager attempts to express the infinite. Since poems both describe and limit, they are merely metaphors, signs, and symbols that suggest spiritual experience but, alas, cannot describe “the thing itself”. Describing God with words is a little like writing on water or catching a snowflake. Nothing “sticks” for long.
My book This Moment Called God describes my own attempts to express subjective spiritual experiences through poetry. It is meant to be autobiographical and represents but one of the infinite paths up the mountain.
Finally, I am sincerely grateful to have this opportunity to share my journey with you. I hope you find my poems useful.
About the Author
My spiritual journey began in earnest, after I nearly died of appendicitis when I was twenty years old. Shortly thereafter, I became fearful of death and felt the intense longing for God. Over time, this longing turned ever more inward until, through meditation, I began to see God and the world as conscious energy. Writing poems has helped me better understand this awareness and become a part of it. At fifty-two, the journey continues with a quiet patience that helps me live in love, instead of fear.
