About the Book

This book is about the constant power struggle between Politics and Education played in a metaphorical football game that has been detrimental to any progress being made to solve the nation’s problems in education. However, is the tide changing! I say that it is, not out of sentiment for the plight of the public school teacher or support personnel, but out of necessity. The nation is panicking because of the imminent teacher and support shortages all across the country, have caused the politicians to react, whether they want to or not; and, the decisions they are making are not meeting the needs of our professional educators. I am talking about a process that has been in place for a long duration and does not work! The politicians have been winning this game using a political process established to make laws and control the “purse strings” of the educational budgets. What I question in the book are the motives of the politicians for enacting legislation that only coincides with their party’s agenda and not really considering the impact they have made upon the lives of our children, teachers, administrators, parents and support personnel. I describe these issues in detail in my book. I devote half the book to the support personnel in our schools, the unsung heroes, who have embattled the system, with poor pay and not much recognition, yet do their jobs everyday with passion and dedication.  My mission in writing this book is for real, meaningful, political change to occur in education; both sides, politics and education, must stop the game playing if they ever want to achieve a win/win situation. I also write about “systems thinking”; and especially, how both education and politics have forsaken this very important process in collaboration to meet this end.

Who will win this game? Stay tuned.

About the Author

This is Manny J. Klimis’ second published book, his first book was entitled “My Life as a Public School Teacher: Leave No Teacher Behind”,  ISBN: 1413758924.

He received his B.S. Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana in 1973. He also received a Master’s Degree from the University Of South Florida, Tampa, FL, in 1976.

Mr. Klimis has been a professional educator for over thirty years and has taught middle school in Clearwater and Tarpon Springs, Florida ; he also taught G.E.D. classes and was an instructor at Pasco-Hernando Community College. Currently, Mr. Klimis is working for the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fl., as a Director of Interns and teaching classes. He writes his books by drawing upon his personal experiences in education; both, as a classroom teacher and grievance representative for PCTA/PESPA , the local teacher’s union, and as a lobbyist for the state and national organization in Washington, D.C. with the NEA. In this book , he asks the question, who will win this game? A game that is being played to the detriment of education. He is impassioned with raising the salaries of public school teachers and support personnel; more importantly however, he is on a mission to bring back the ‘respect’ that was once so prevalent during his early years of teaching. He depicts in this book, the game that is being played between politics and education in a very creative way, using professional football as the backdrop to convey his message.
