About the Book

This book is a biography of my uncle William J. Dunn who left formal education after his sophomore year of high school and competed on the job market at five different jobs and landed each one during his life time all of which required a college education.  I thought this was so unusual that I felt his story should be told.  He was dean of all correspondents in the Pacific Theatre in WWII and calumniated his lifelong ambition of world travel with an extended European tour of fourteen years given his expertise in European Travel which is seen in two of his books Enjoy Europe by Car and Enjoy Europe by Train which were both highly successful.

About the Author

I was born October 23, 1923 in Chicago, IL.  I was the second son of three in the family of Ralph M. Dunn and Alice G. Dunn.  After graduating high school, I attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis, IN for a year and a half until my draft notice came in December of 1942.  I optioned to join the navy rather than be drafted because I would have three good meals a day and not have to dig a fox hole.  After the war was over I returned home and joined my father in his industrial feeding business which comprised of exclusive food service to Inland Steel Corporation. In 1948 I married Billie F. Rhodes and in 1960 we had one daughter, Kimberly A. Dunn.  She married George D. Goetz and had two daughters Heather N. Goetz and Jennifer L. Goetz.   In 1960 Inland opted to convert their canteen operation to one of vending machines and my father said he was not interested in converting to a vending operation.  At this time I joined the Equitable Life Insurance Company as an agent and retired in 1970 and moved to Terre Haute, Indiana so my wife could be near her mother and I am still residing here in Terre Haute
