About the Book

Someone once told me that my words have a voice, and that whatever I decided to do with my writings, I must never lose that voice in those words written on paper.

From the Walls Inside:  Recorded Conversations with Myself, is a compilation of personal testimonies that I have written in the form of poetry, short stories and essays.  It is a book of expression--an expression of hurt and pain, leading towards healing and deliverance.  It speaks from woman to woman; however, it speaks volumes for many who have been victimized by the haunting secrets of their past.

Growing up in a home that was infested with generation curse upon generation curse was a difficult thing for me as a child to comprehend, to communicate and/or to outmaneuver; there were no specific guidelines on how to effectively make known the many hurts and pains that were festering within me.  It was only when I became an adult that I was able to write about the pain from the suffering inside.  Many times I stared into the mirror and talked to myself (slowly picked myself apart), when I saw a wounded little girl bound, fighting to scream out the voice that was hiding within—the voice that was silenced by everyone else’s silence.  I began to record those conversations (with the guidance of the Lord) to understand that while I was in the midst of my pain, there was a much greater purpose for my life.

Christ has blessed my life with the gift of writing; He has entrusted me with this gift; He has given me the responsibility to help set others free through the power of the written word.

About the Author

Sonya Faye Pope was born on December 17, 1969 in San Francisco, California to Shelly Hart, Sr. and Robbie Lois Hart.  She is the first born of the third set of twins, the ninth of eleven daughters, and the fifteenth of eighteen children.

She attended George Washington High School in San Francisco, where she met her high school sweetheart.  Because she was not focused academically at her first high school, Sonya was later transferred to Mark Twain High School (a continuation school), where she excelled academically; she gained employment with a Government Agency through the school’s work permit program; however, school was something that just didn’t interest Sonya at that time.  She then attempted to do Independent Study but later dropped completely out in her junior year in 1987.

At the age of eighteen she became pregnant and ended up on welfare; after the birth of her first daughter, she and her boyfriend (now husband) Benny, struggled to raise a family.  Her husband worked many odds jobs to provide for his family, but there wasn’t much that Sonya could do since she was a high school dropout, although, she did make several attempts to obtain her diploma.

Finally, in 1998, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, and in 2003, she found the absolute courage to defeat the “high school drop-out” ghost of her past, and decided to achieve her goal of becoming an educated individual.  She is currently enrolled at Skyline Community College, in San Bruno, California, majoring in Creative Writing; she is now dedicated, focused, and has committed herself to reaching her goal: that she receives the education that she had completely set aside.  Sonya now lives in South San Francisco with her husband of twenty-two years (legally thirteen years) and their four daughters.
