About the Book

These two collections of poems, “Sweet Daydreams:  Know Yo’ Self Sistah” and “From the Alley to the Valley” speak to the pitfalls, downfalls, loss of self, womanness, dreams, visions of those so desperately in search of the “truth” of their lives.  But, then allows for repentance, redemption, love, confidence, and hope to shine through and give purpose to their very being.  Thus, the title of the collection, Sunlight Over Shadows.

It is my sincere hope that readers young and seasoned, men, women, children coming into their own will find themselves lost in the lines of these poems only to come through victorious giving way to the beauty of imperfection radiating humanness.

About the Author

T. R. Scott was born Tanisha Renee Scott on December 13, 1974 to Samuel and Sandra Scott.  She is one of four children.  Ms. Scott is a native of Pontiac, Michigan.  She attended Pontiac Schools and completed both her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts in Critical Studies in the Teaching of English at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.  In addition, Ms. Scott coordinated the Mentoring and Community Service programs for Michigan State University’s Upward Bound Program, has trained student leaders and facilitated the development of student groups on the campus of Michigan State University, taught first and second-year Writing Composition at Lansing Community College, and taught Reading and Writing for Oakland University’s Project Upward Bound Program.  Ms. Scott is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Ms. Scott's desire to be a writer was implanted during elementary school where she would create her own greeting cards for her family.  She continued to write throughout the years, but never seriously pursued a career in writing or a means for publication.  It wasn't until the untimely passing of her unborn daughter at 27 weeks that she recaptured her passion for writing and made the decision to reveal to the world this gift from God.

Known as a soulful writer, Ms. Scott reaches to the very depths of pain, self-actualization, and love in order to make the invisible visible.  It is through her writing that she hopes to inspire dialogue that will begin the healing process for so many that have “mishandled their own anointing”.  If you wish to contact the author about this journey, feel free to do so at scott_tanisha@hotmail.com
