Khaliq, the main character, is waking up on this day the same way he has every day of his life. He wakes up to a mind full of questions; one being the same question we have all asked, "Who am I?" The thing is something is different about this day: Ever question? Ever feel the urge to ask? When most wish to know how, I need to know the why or more importantly the when. In the grand scheme we sit as separate links on a chain that pulls time along. Or better yet are we being pulled along by the chain of time? These questions lead us to question, yes question any and all things that seem indefinable. In the time of Ancient Greece, the Walk of Jesus of Nazareth, the Reign of the Roman Empire, the forging of the New World, thought was seen as one's sole weapon to become something or someone that was to be held with respect or value. In the time of development and revolution of most, thought was the adhesive that held the advancement together. Thought was the seed that was sown to later reap potential benefits. Today thought is seen as something so different. For this I ask; Why? Today we operate in times that would rather act than think. Today we stand side-by-side linked with a society that believe the step is most important, not the reason behind taking that step. Because of this we rest in a pool of quick sand. We rest comfortably on ground that supports us not, but rather slowly swallows us. A ground that pulls us to its depths that rest beneath its surface to a place that we can not piece together images before our eyes. The day we remove, the day we separate the reason from action or reaction is the day we as a human race fall to the test of our existence. Down goes the sun's light and out cast the mysterious glow of the moon. Leave clear sky; inject the eyes of oversight with mist and fog. Cloud the mind with distractions. What is life? What is love? Does it all stop at death? Is there a God? Do I follow the "right" religion? What greater thing is there for me to take hold of? These are all questions that we have all thought at some point in our lives. Life is not fair. There has to be more. All statements we have all made. Why me? How come not me? All thoughts we have had run through our mind. The question that has made this man, once boy, now man again............ Who am I? Just behind this disturbing question and around the corner of anonymity always follows more. Am I me now or me then? Does the then decide the now? How much past alters the future to come before me? Does my name make me or more simply label me? Is the physical sense of me simply a symbolism of what rest beneath my skin? Is it all predetermined or do I have control of it all? Who am I? It takes so much to make the indefinable definitely defined. How can any one person like, love or simply respect one that truly knows not who they are? And suddenly I awaken..................... Jolting from my bed as if life itself were being pulled from my chest, I rise. Dreams just like this one that plaque me. So dark, deep and cold. No light, no color and senses all removed. Air races past my face as my heart attempts to escape my chest. Sometimes I'm the hero, but most the enemy. Trying to catch my breath, frantically wiping sweat from my face and chest while simultaneously reaching for the phone, that for some reason seems to be miles away on this morning. Then it rings. Ring, Ring. That ring almost finishes the job that the dream had started. It scares me half to death. Fumbling over to the phone and almost falling clear from bed I grab it. "Hello", I answer. "Good morning son. It has been a while since I have heard your voice. What does your phone not work these days?" You got to love momma. I think this every morning when she calls. "Mom I just talked to you just yesterday morning." I reply. Of course her answer back to me is the same as it is every morning. "Yeah you got me there, but I dialed your phone number then too. Do your fingers work like mine, or are they broken and not your phone?" I laugh, just like I do every morning. A laugh that is always is under my breath. To be honest it is more of a snicker than it is a laugh. "I love you momma.", that's always my response. Every morning this is the routine. Wake, then talk to momma. Shower, and then off to work. And let's not forget the stop at the coffee stand on seventh. I don't even drink coffee, but to fight past that one disgusting sip to see the beautiful face of... well I never really got her name, but ah yes it becomes so worth it suddenly. See the trip to the stand is only made in hopes that one day I could work up the nerve to ask her out. Until then I will just keep on painfully sipping. Who knew today would be so different from all the others? I didn't, everything was routine as usual. They say love begins the process of defining one self, but this is something that even I could not expect.

Who is a story that answers the question that we all share. That question is "Who am I?" If you have ever asked yourself that question then this is a book you can ill offered to not purchase. Who takes you through the story of the main character, a man named Khaliq, learning who he is. You as the reader serve as a stow-away in the mind of Khaliq through all of his questions, dreams, thoughts, and nightmares. You are right there with him every step of the way in his reality, in his past, and in his fantasized future. You relive his birth, re-experience his childhood, and just as he is caught off guard by future events you are as well. The entire story is tied together with a loose knot of a love story. Through love most begin to truly learn themselves, but this love is far from the normal love story. I'm sure he wishes it could have been more traditional. Nevertheless, in the end of his rocky drama filled story, he discovers himself. He learns himself. He knows who in fact he is, and hopefully you will share in his moment of self-discovery with Khaliq. So tell me this you are........................WHO.
About the Author
Eddie Dove was born (1983) and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was there in the inner city of Philadelphia that Eddie Dove developed his dynamic way of thinking. He was a people watcher at a young age, and it was then that he started to write. Having his first poem published while in third grade was just the motivation he needed to express himself by way of the pen and page. Through poetry and lyrics he shared thoughts and insight in regards to his observations of those around him. The older he grew he began to use his talent to make an impact in the world around him. In 1996 at the tender age of 12 he was named first place winner of the Mellon PSFS Stop the Violence Poetry Contest. Along with 4 other finalist his poetry was combined with theirs and composed a "End of the Violence" song. As a result of this step made in the direction of making a difference he made appearances on The Maury Povich Show, The Lisa Thomas Laury Show, Rappin' and many more. Not to far after that at age 16 Eddie Dove attacked his next big project. It was result of this essay that he was named 2000 McDonald's Black History Maker of Tomorrow. It was while attending Lock Haven University that his interest grew on the topics of general psychology and individual philosophy of humans. From that point his poetry and essays surrounded the idea of making a difference in the world by challenging people to think deeper than they are accustomed to thinking. Eddie Dove has been contemplating the deterioration of society. He has recently spent time meditating on the poisoned minds of our youth. He has come to the conclusion that these things are taking place in the manner that they are simply as a result of the society lack of time spent on defining themselves. He believes that once one learns who they are their level of self worth is raised, and once their self worth is raised they take more pride in not only themselves but also in their surrounds and everything pertaining to them. That was the very reason for Mr. Dove to write this very book. This book is more than a book to Eddie Dove; it is yet again another moment/project in his life to make a difference in society as a whole.
