Told through the eyes of a recently unemployed engineer, who has lost his job due to the Cold War's end, the book carries the reader down lonely midnight interstates, on visits to National Parks, the repairs done to the Solar Maximum Mission spacecraft, to getting car trouble up dirt roads on remote Native American Reservations. He even gives a quick lesson, or two, in the fine art of C8 telescope set-up & repair, and reveals his fine mystical sense, as well as a keen scientific eye for the landscape and its geology.
After our travels around the desert southwest, the book's searing conclusion takes place with a fictional alternative retelling of the story behind the L.A. riots.
A must read for anyone who loves the desert southwest, amateur astronomy buffs, or anyone who has ever lost their way in life!

In "Stories" he reveals the granduer of the desert southwest, as seen through the eyes of a recently unemployed engineer (himself?) His collection of short stories shows how he escaped to the desert, in order to find in himself a renewed strength.
The book's finale gives an alternative retelling of how the L.A. riots might have happened. The book features many beautiful landscapes and nature photos, a real must for anyone who has ever lost their way.
About the Author
A former aerospace engineer, researcher, and educator, author David Tracy now writes about science, and science related topics, while heading up his private consulting business where he also holds several U.S. Patents.
His published works include "Creative Experimenting Using Rubber Bands- for adventurous minds of all ages!" (which was intended for his former high school science students), "Stories of the West" (a more autobiographical work reflecting on the environment of the desert southwest as well as the author's job loss), and "Creative Systems Engineering and R&D Project Management- A survival guide for technical managers" (a work intended to give college level science students a glimpse of what they will need to suceed in the real world!)
