About the Illustrator

Nancy Swyers Sandgren is an accomplished artist known for her portraits and paintings in pastels and watercolor.  She comes by her artistic talents honestly as the niece of Mead Schaffer, who is best known as an American illustrator in the 1920s through 1940s.  He is well known for his book and magazine illustrations and was a close friend of Norman Rockwell.

Nancy brings her own special talent to this project.  Without her wonderful illustrations, this book would never have come to press.  In her spare time, she enjoys illustrating hymns and scriptures for her church.  Nancy is mother of three and grandmother of seven.  She also is the “Nana” to many neighborhood children.  She and her husband, Harry, have been married 53 years.  They, too, enjoy a household of pets.  After many years of traveling with the U. S. Air Force, it is still in their blood and most trips are to visit their family.
