The "F" Word

It has been said that the Pilgrims were responsible for the popularity of the “F” word. Why? If a person was found guilty of adultery they were punished by being  . put on public display in a stockade with a sign hanging from their neck that read For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and  the acronym formed from this saying became the popular fad of the day and was used by everyone no matter what the offense.

The author decided to use this expletive, to see how it might have been used throughout history.

Using the symbols &%$# and &%$#!@* for the present participle, Adam in the Garden of Eden might have confronted Eve with, "Why the &%$# didn't you tell me WHO told you not to eat that apple?" 

Noah, in 4314 B.C., during the deluge, might  have shouted,scattered &$#!@*  showers my ass."   And Mary at Christmas might have berated Joseph with "It's freezing out, I'm pregnant - God only knows how - and now you tell me you forgot to book a &%$#!@* room at the Inn. Terrific!”     or

Michelangelo, in l556, might have confronted the Pope with,

“You want WHAT painted on the &%$#!@* ceiling of the Chapel?” or Paul Revere asking his countrymen, “Was it one or &%$#!@* two if by sea?” and  Lincoln  could have asked his

secretary of State,” I freed the &%$#!@* who?”

or Wilber, in 1902, saying to his brother, “I don't know if

this thing will ever amount to much, Orville, 'cause it's too &%$#!@* heavy

And the Captain of the Titanic, in  1912 exclaiming to his

helmsman, "What the &%$# do you mean we're sinking?"          And there's Amelia Earhart's

consternation in 1937 when she casually remarked to her pilot, "Where the &%$# are we?"
