My Father's Eyes

     Charles arrived home late during the night, everyone was sound asleep and he quietly retreated to his bedroom unannounced to anyone that he had arrived.  Well it is early to bed and early to rise.  Charles was up with the birds preparing a gourmet breakfast that was most inviting.  The food carried a welcomed aroma of seasons and spices throughout the house.  To everyone's surprise it was Charles cooking in the kitchen!

     The staff rushed in to discover what was cooking in the kitchen!  When Silas came in his first question was, "Charles, when did you arrive home?"  There was silence between them and then Charles simply said, "It was late.  How was your night?"

     Silas didn't respond knowing he was involved in extra outside association with the opposite sex and this was a private matter, at least he thought so.  Charles gave him a reason to trap himself in a lie and said that his mother tried to phone to notify him of the changes in their travel plans but apparently didn't get an answer from him.

     "Were you sleeping or were you out?"  The staff was looking back and forth at each of them and Silas abruptly dismissed their service...as they were leaving, Silas approached Charles and said, "Young man don't question me, don't ever be concern with my business.  Lucas was the last to enter the kitchen.  "Is everything OK, I could hear voices!  Wow...Breakfast smells delicious!  Charles did you make all this food by youself?"

     "Sure I did...Lucas...Good Morning!  Help Yourself!"  Said Charles.  Lucas is delighted to have a prepared meal so early.  He was rather hungry and wasn't concerned about the conversation at hand.

     "It's true then, by my estimations you were out and about!"  He smiled knowing that he had derived pleasure in annoying Silas.  He continued to eat the delicious breakfast as if it all was no big deal.  Silas hesitated from further response and abruptly turned and walked out of the kitchen.

     Moments later Charles telephoned his mother, Johanna who was still in Paris on business.  He wanted to convey that he had something important to share with her and that it was urgent she come home as soon as possible.  Johanna promised that she would wrap things up quickly and wanted to know what was on his mind.  Charles replied, "I have something to tell you, it's just important that you come home!"  "I have a feeling like something...is going to happen!  He said."

     "I'm not sure what you mean, Charles!"  Johanna assured him that she would be on the next private flight.

     Silas went to the library and called Johanna on her cellular phone...it was ringing but no answer.  Then Johanna quickly answered.  "Hello, Darling...how are you?"  Is everything OK?"

     "Sure, Love...I just wanted to hear your voice!  Tell me, when do you plan to come home?"

     "Soon, Darling...Soon!  She never mentioned that Charles had just called and the message that he conveyed.

     "Johanna, listen I think that it's urgent that you delay the remainder of your trip and come home at once...I just feel uneasy about some things...I would feel alot better if you were here.  I want you to come home as soon as you can!"

     With hearing this same message twice she assured him that she would be there soon.  Now Johanna was very puzzled.  What is going on with Charles and Silas?  What could it be?  With all the trouble and sorrows that they have suffered, what could be happening next?

     Johanna was troubled by the latest phone calls and knew that it must be urgent and quite necessary for her to return home earlier than arranged.  She had some private matters that required her approval and these details were a must.  Before she could return home what was most important was the problems she was dealing with in Paris...at the very least she would need one more day, just one more day to tie loose ends and make the deadline for yet another one of the most lucrative deals completely orchestrated by her and her alone!

     Johanna called for her private jet to pick her up the next day...Meanwhile in the States, Silas calls for Joseph Sandler, the chauffeur driver to take him to his office that was located in The Bur Dell Funeral Home in New Jersey, Charles was already gone...or at least He hadn't been seen for the past couple of hours.  Johanna could only contemplate what on earth could be happening!!!  She had no ideal the difference a day would make...
