Emily was already dressed and we were just waiting for the ceremony to begin within the next twenty minutes. Emily was a beautiful bride, the epitome of grace and elegance. The musical prelude was playing softly in the background while the soft chatter of the other bridesmaids filled the lounge. Although I was delighted for my friend, I longed to find that special someone for myself. Sure I still had plenty of time, but my dream had always been to marry and have children by the time I was twenty six years old. My last two relationships failed because the men in my life thought more of their physical needs than they did of me. Both men wanted the benefits of a marital relationship without the commitment and that was neither in God’s plan nor in mine. So much for my self pity party, I was determined to be happy on this day.
I picked up the wedding program and started reading the order of service, but found myself distracted by the insert printed the center of the program. It read:
Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone, to have a deep soul relationship with another, to be loved thoroughly and exclusively. But God to a Christian says, “No, not until you are fully satisfied, fulfilled and content with being loved by Me alone. I want you to give yourself totally and unreservedly to Me. Have an intense personal relationship with Me! When you discover that only in Me is your satisfaction to be found, you will be capable of the perfect human relationship that I have planned for you. You will never be united with another until you are united with Me, exclusive of anyone or anything else, exclusive of any desires or longings. I want you to stop planning and stop wishing. Allow Me to give you the most thrilling plan existing, one that you cannot imagine.
I want you to have the best. Please allow me to bring it to you. You just keep watching Me, and expect the greatest things. Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I am. Keep listening and learning the things I tell you. You just wait; that’s all I want you to do. Wait! Don’t be anxious; don’t worry. Don’t look around at the things others have gotten or what I’ve given them. Don’t look at the things you think you want. You just keep looking off and away up to Me, or you’ll miss what I want to show you.
And then, when you are ready, I’ll surprise you with a love far more wonderful than any you could ever dream of. You see My child, until you are ready and until the one I have for you is ready (I am working even at this moment to have you both ready at the same time), until you are both satisfied completely with Me and the life I have prepared for you, you won’t be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with Me. This is the perfect love.
And Dear One, I want you to have this love, this most wonderful love. I want you to see in the flesh a picture of your relationship with Me and enjoy concretely the everlasting union of beauty, perfection, love, and peace.
Know that I love you utterly because I am God. Believe it and be satisfied.
I closed my eyes, meditated, and silently said a prayer of thanksgiving to God for His many blessings.
