Bleached-barked sycamores line these banks Giant sentinels… Gently swaying back and forth, unaware of minutes, hours, days producing little white shadows that dance on the ripples over the shallow rocks and sand… the incessant rush of pure water reflecting transient glimmers of sunlight, while steadily flowing downstream… unaware of weeks, months, years, and producing shadows on the silty bottom; shadows of the past... of kith and kin wading, splashing, laughing together, unaware of minutes, hours, days, but all passing along like transient glimmers of sunlight, while steadily flowing downstream my grandfather, uncles and cousins all passed here many hours spent at work or play Aunt Dorie was baptized in that deep hole there. And still, somehow their essence remains. I feel it. Many of the roots from those swaying pale guardians exposed high up on the banks open to the elements of weeks, months, years… just as the lives of those remembered here some large, firm and bold, although scarred others, frail, rotting and disintegrating… all passing along like the transient glimmers of sunlight, steadily flowing downstream… but all an essential part of this place. I long for these shadows to come alive, to be real again… For this water to be pure, pure as it once was, Like my friends and my kin, but like the transient glimmers of sunlight, briefly reflected off the rocks, they have long since flowed downstream.

About the Book
Here, author Nelson Rhodus reflects on the various family members ( Old dog’neva, Henry Nelson Green, Thanks, Mom, Putt and Je’bez, which is about going fishing and his relationship with his dad) , the various activities ( Corporeal Equinox, first love, Coming in Case, Autumn Gathering, Fall Lick Frolikers, Camp McKee, Crawdads), his beloved dog ( Fat Black), and then later life perspectives which were influenced by the earlier events (Clamshells in the snow, Mr. Bowman, for Lorraine, which was very much influenced by his mother).
In these poems and prose ,we get a glimse of the life, the energies and family dynamics, but moreover the daily philiosophies which in some manner sustain us all.
