About the Book

We first started writing our story for those who have not yet arrived on the scene, unborn generations who are destined to make their appearance in our family and in the family of man.  Our aim was to narrow the gap for those who were too little or not even in this world, to have known or appreciated Grandpa Chuck.

Then we thought about a wider audience - our close friends and beyond.  Grandpa’s legacy to us all is about faith, love, courage and fortitude in accepting the vicissitudes of life and mysteries of death.  Perhaps our readers, especially children and youth who are experiencing the sudden or gradual loss of someone they cherish dearly, will discover between these pages a gentle ray of hope.  What could be brighter or more comforting than to imagine our loved ones that have passed from us, immersed in an ocean of light?

About the Author

Kay Larson was born on January 16, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, when most of humanity lay in the grip of global and catastrophic trials of World War II.  Although one’s own moment of birth can hardly be recalled, she senses that it was more like having been shot from a cannon and hitting the deck running.  A sense of urgency about meeting the challenges of the hour overshadowed even the earliest years of her life.  Some 66 years later, the world is no less in turmoil, yet she feels that conditions have changed.  Her story of Grandpa Chuck is a catalyst for sharing great hope and ardent expectations of a brighter future - discoveries made as they journeyed together along the course of their lives.

Kay’s years of formal education began in elementary schools at St. Louis Park and Richfield, Minnesota.  She graduated from Richfield High and later earned a B.S. degree from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota.  Returning to school in her mid-fifties, she obtained a master’s degree from Antioch University, Seattle, Washington, in a special program called “Whole Systems Design”.  She affirms that her family of five children, their spouses and sixteen young ones have been her greatest teachers, while various forms of learning and service through her experience as a member of the Bahá'í Faith, integrate all of the above pathways.

She writes from personal experience, informally and from the heart.
