Let me introduce myself to you...my name is Moose: I am a fetcher of sticks, a chaser of cats and squirrels and the watcher of my neighborhood.
Now I've got to tell you...my name wasn't always Moose. I wasn't always a fetcher of sticks, or a chaser of cats and squirrels and I most certainly wasn't always the watcher of the neighborhood. There was a time when I didn't have a home and I didn't have a name. That was a long time ago.
My story begins during that very sad time...I was just a puppy and all alone in the world. Nobody wanted me. Nobody loved me. This really puzzled me because I always tried to be a good boy, I really did.
When I was a few months old I was wandering down a road, searching for food and a place to sleep. I was really looking for a home and someone to love me. Then it happened!!!
A truck pulled over to the side of the road and a man got out and called to me. Was he taking me to a new home?
I sure hoped so! I sat real pretty, wagged my tail and gave him my best smile. And you know what? He put me in the back of his truck. I was going to a new home! Yippee!!!
We pulled up to a building and went inside. This place didn't look like my new home. It had cages filled with LOTS of puppies!!! I looked at their faces. They all had a lost look in their eyes (like me).
I was sad. I realized none of us had homes. I was put in a cage with other puppies, and left alone. I wished for someone to come and take me to a new home. No one came.

About the Book
Moose on the Loose (Vol. I, Moose Finds A Home), is a charming story of how a lost puppy finds a loving home. The book tells the tale of one special puppy's journey from staying in the puppy shelter, to finding a new home, to getting a name (Moose), to his very first big adventure with his new family.
This book is designed to be read to preschoolers at bedtime. The story is written in seven chapters - one chapter for each night of the week. Since every chapter is a story in itself, a favorite chapter can be read and enjoyed again, and again, and again.
About the Author
Patricia Knaebe is passionate about education and literacy. Growing up in a family that valued reading bedtime stories, Patricia strives to pass her love of stories on to others. She has her MBA degree and teaches at the college level. She lives in Northeast Indiana with her husband, Bill, and their two "furry kids" Moose and Sweetie (the family's newest addition). Patricia is currently working on "Moose on the Loose, Vol. II".
About The Illustrator:
Shane J. T. Luttrell is an acclaimed illustrator who currently attends Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is the editorial cartoonist for the award winning school newspaper and magazine. "Moose on the Loose" is Shane's first published illustration project and he is proud to be a part of Moose's life story.
About Moose:
Moose is a Chesapeake Bay/Golden Retriever mix. His personality is a mix as well. He is curious and stubborn like a Chesapeake Bay and social like a Golden. When Moose meets people he greets them with a wagging tail and a hug. Moose is a friend to everyone and has never met a squirrel, or cat, he doesn't want to chase.
The Moose illustration concept was originally conceived and developed by Patricia's husband, Bill Hadlock.
