It could be said that a number of periods of time, what Gregorian scholars designated to be days, passed and Paul utilized as many of the twenty-four hours in each one as his body could stand slaving to finalize the premise for the new steel-making process.  During the daylight time, at his office in the Engineering Department in the DIASW building, oblivious of all other activities but this one.  At closing, stuffing his papers and files into his briefcase to take with him to the Schobert home, where he resided, to continue into the wee hours until exhaustion overcame. 

There was no distinction between job time and home life time.  All hours were devoted to work time.  His mind was thrilled with the concept.  His brain was struggling with his desire for the word-perfect postulation.  His body laboring to meet the dateline he, himself, had set without recognition.  Paul was tired, but his jubilance vastly overshadowed the fatigue.

Louisia had been very cross with him when she had time with him.  She didn’t understand.  He couldn’t stay in bed until 10 o’clock and make love to her every other morning like he was able to do in Garmisch.  Nor meet her at 3 pm for tennis.  He had to work now.

Garmisch had been a two year vacation, few real responsibilities, no time schedule.  They could mold the day to meet their desires.  For a while it was a fun time, but then the routine became boring.  Louisia said so.  They had to move on, make a new life.  Find a way to fit their enjoyment to a new routine.  It was work eight to six, six days a week, now.  Maybe some Sundays, too.  The mill operated seven days a week.  Now, he was working on this new concept.  Just him.
