About the Book

The Chiltern Hills from boyhood have been a backdrop inspiration of my work. I compose in the direct tradition of the great English ‘Romantics’ Wordsworth, Byron, Keats and the poets of the East Midlands John Clare, William Cowper and Gray. The

Rhythms and flow of line and sound retain a modern dynamic; the cornerstone is to give beauty and even ugliness the brushstroke of a memorable setting. My work celebrates the challenge of feeling joy and sorrow in the world in which we live. Where being human we recognise our individual gifts in nature and in the modern world. The emotion and tranquillity of poetry is a relationship of sharing in the joy of being alive and human. Poetry like song and dance is a pleasurable pastime sometimes with deeper meaning. About the Author

As with many poets I have tasted innumerable aspects of life in the twentieth century. From my boyhood by the source of the great river Lea through sojourns at Leeds University, Plater College Oxon and The Maryvale Institute. Yet some of my most iconic days were spent at the Carnegie Library in Luton. On my travels in Europe and North America I have watched listened and learnt and enjoyed most of the many people and places I’ve visited. Here in England is the best of my memories where from child to adulthood I have learnt and loved. As the world shrinks with the facility of the means of rapid transport. So we cherish the wonders and excitement of those places we have known since childhood. The romance of our treasured memories is the bedrock of the artistry of true verse.
