The Origin of LDG (Looking DAMN Good)
There are so many adjectives in our language that one can choose to describe how a woman looks. All these positive wonderful words like lovely, fabulous, svelte, pretty, voluptuous, classic, feminine, or cute. Cute -- that’s the word that was frequently chosen to describe me; I always really wanted to be described as stunning instead!
But no description of a woman had near the impact of my father’s favorite description. My dad would come home from work and say to my mother, “I saw Lydia Brunner today; she looks damn good”. I always wondered -- what did that mean? The next time I saw Mrs. B., I would look at her quizzically as I tried to figure out just why she looked damn good. As I observed her -- and other women who had earned my father’s coveted LDG comment, I came to understand it was more about the way they were than how they looked. Yes, they were pretty -- some more so than others. It was more in the way they carried themselves, the fullness of their voices, and the readiness of their smiles. It was about the total package. In retrospect, I can say it seems to me their insides matched their outsides. That’s what the difference was. That’s what mattered. That’s what made them look DAMN good.
