About the Author

I have only been good at chronicling my life through writing. I was never taught, therefore, I never learned how to express myself verbally. I grew up being afraid to express myself fearing that my words would be loss on deaf ears. At an early age, I began journaling my words using poetry. I like to call it my kind of poetry, plain and simple. This became my way of surviving jotting down my emotions allowing the words to speak for me is all I had. Poetry has always been entertaining as well as inspirational to me.

Andre Lorde is one of my favorite poets. The first time I read something written by her I was blown away. That is when I really grasp the importance of poetry for those who suffer in silence I realized that it gave you a voice it becomes your voice. While reading her poetry I began to see just how beautiful poetry could be. I learned how to tell my story in so little words. It became more to me than words on paper. It became my story plain and simple.

This is what inspired me to share my poetry with others. My poems are more than mere words jotted down on paper. They are an elaborate map which represents where I’ve been and where I am going.

I am a Poet, a Mother and a Survivor.

I AM

I am who I am

Uncertain times

Wondering, pondering

Deep thoughts

Exposed heart, shaken

Looking within

Seeing myself

Hearing my new name

MS. SURVIVOR

Standing tall

Accepting the title

Moving forward

Being the only person

I can be

ME

I am who I am

I won the fight

I survived

                                 Moving on with my life
