“Whatever the claims and counterclaims of the administration and the respective political parties, the fact is that the unalienable right of life of as many as 3300 young men and women was abolished by the executive and Congress in one stroke. A still larger number of young men and women lost their limbs and vital organs, and a far greater number of family members and friends of these young men and women lost their happiness. The administration now attempts to explain away the decision on war with the help of sacrificial lambs and scapegoats. But it is very surprising that the former Director of C.I.A. has publicly acknowledged that he was made a scapegoat in this episode?
But the young men and women who lost their lives, and those who were seriously injured, including Jessica Lynch and others, were unable to protest against being made guinea pigs to fight an unjustified war.
What is the guarantee that this will not happen again?
What counter measures should be devised so that thousands of young men and women are not made guinea pigs and served as war fodder to satiate the hunger of some interested individuals and groups?
Democracy does not envisage that one should consider himself to be a victor and therefore superior and the vanquished as inferior. It would be best to solve the problems with mutual trust, discussions and cooperation with lesser loss of human lives and pain and suffering. It is necessary that there is mutual trust and respect in dealing with others .
This may appear to be wishful thinking but the fact is that evidence shows that bitter enemies become more bitter with a war but when problems are solved with mutual respect and goodwill, the results are much better and more lasting for both parties.
