About the Author

Michael Ferguson Head has been composing poetry since grade school (Over 25 years), immediately influenced by his professors at The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. The natural atmosphere there and beyond piqued his mind's eye tremendously and flooded his poems. The next decade he honed his art and became published internationally. Through many musical influences (as well as Robert Lowell and Pablo Neruda) Michael began to shape his style in an even new fashion which has put into his first book, Solstice: A Cape Cod Notebook. It spoke of many of his immediate romantic ifluences of people, nature, sailing, the sea, etc.. which was well received. After several years of doing some more searching he rediscovered the teachings of Terrance McKenna--a shaman/philosopher who he had seen lecture when he was a teenager. Michael believed poetry could be seen as a a kind of drug, or psychedelic itself--meaning that it could take the cult out of culture, it could imaginatively be taken from the brain, taken and put in front of oneself, and studied into the theory of novelty--a balance of The Sacred Feminine and a male-dominated society for a kind of new hope for the future on a topographical and cyclical plane. The Mayfly aptly demonstrates this notion. Michael is a Mid-Westerner educated at the Hotchkiss and Connecticut College schools of New England, and has become inspired by the unique naturalism of Cape Cod. He is also a singer/songwriter and is currently working on his third book of poetry in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
