About the Book

Freeda’s Fancy Feet teaches, in a fun and lighthearted way, that “things are not always pinker on the other side of the feather…”

Freeda dreams that, instead of her webbed feet, she has “people” feet.  In her dream, she imagines all the activities she would do with feet that have toes instead of webs and the shoes she would wear!

Why a flamingo? It’s hard to look at a flamingo and not smile!

The flamingo has been iconic for Lou for nearly twenty years.  To Lou, the flamingo embodies some of the best qualities a human can have; to be able to see clearly in muddy waters (flamingos find their food in shallow, mucky ponds,) gets along well with others (flamingos fly in a huge flock called a “pet,”) and the ability to take themselves lightly while staying in perfect balance!

In Freeda’s Fancy Feet, our gentle flamingo is used to teach children that they are perfect exactly the way they are.

About the Author

Lou Evers, the author of Freeda’s Fancy Feet, created Freeda Flamingo with the inspiration of many wonderful children who convinced her never to grow up!  Lou lives a rich life in Phoenix, and has family in Arizona, Rhode Island, Georgia and Michigan.

Lou’s life is blessed and enriched by many relatives and friends, but particularly by Sabra and their canine companions Oz and Tucka.  She also knows that “Magic” follows her everywhere.

Lou is a great follower of the words of Brian Burns and George Harris, which are, “I believe that we are magic, that all things are possible, that life is precious, that peace is reasonable, that laughter is special, that blessings are divine, that love is grand…”

Lou always knew she had a series of books lurking inside, waiting to be written, as she has been a fervent reader since the “flashlight under the bed covers” days. But she never imagined that the main character in her books would be bright pink and feathered!  She hopes that Freeda delights not only her own godchildren, grandchildren and great-nephew, but also that Freeda’s colorful feathers tickle the child in each of us.

Patti DuBois, the illustrator of Freeda’s Fancy Feet, had a unique experience with the undertaking of this project.  Imagine for a moment, someone coming to you and giving you the opportunity to use all of your imagination to create two magnificent characters by the names of Freeda and Skampy. This is what happened when Patti met Lou. Through Lou’s careful description of the characters, Patti translated their look and feel to paper and after several attempts; Freeda and Skampy came alive and nearly jumped off Patti’s easel!

Patti has always been involved with art in some respect, mostly for her personal pleasure. Her works have included painting in different mediums and sculpting.

Illustrating this book brought tremendous joy to Patti and she hopes that this joy is felt by everyone who reads it.

Patti is a Business Coach by profession and works with executives and business owners to challenge their beliefs to get the impossible done. She lives in Arizona with her two dog companions, Cicely and Mo.
