Excerpt from Chapter 4:
While the rest of us jumped, dived, and wrestled in the deep water, Elmo always stayed in the shallow water. Suddenly someone looked across the pond and saw that Elmo had paddled about 50 yards into the shallow end of the pond and was lying on his belly in less than a foot of water! This shallow part of the pond had a mud bottom, unlike where we were, which had a gravel bottom.
“ Elmo, get out of there!” Too late!

Excerpt from Chapter 6:
Now, Elmo had discovered something about the privacy fence on the little building. There was a knothole in the fence at eye-level! When he saw the girl covey go into the outhouse, he sneaked over, and was peering through the knothole at them. He was, that is, until Sue happened to look directly at that spot in the fence and see an eyeball looking at her.

Later, when I saw that our guests were getting ready to leave, I thought I would put in an appearance. The dog whose name was Pinky, also decided to bid them farewell.
Now, my dad was not prone to using swear words, but he did know some! What happened next proved that even a deacon of the church could be provoked!

They are on the near side of the sheep shed, about 75 yards away! I motion to Jim to take the left pair of eyes, while I take the right pair. I whisper, “on the count of three”. Both rifles crack as one! Sound and flame splits the night apart!
