Jeff’s thoughts switched to Luke and he feared that Luke might have snapped when his only sanctuary had been violated. He knew better than anyone what the assassin was capable of doing. He strongly felt that Luke was alive and possibly organizing his worldwide underground connections in an attempt to...to do what? That was the big question in Jeff's mind. The silenced shot could not be heard, but Claire saw the Vice President’s head jerk back then he staggered four or five steps then slump to the floor…….The Vice President is dead…a direct shot to the head.

Jeff laid his head in the grass. “I can’t watch this. Oh shit! How could I have let this happen? God forgive me.” He kept saying the same thing out loud, seeing in his mind’s eye Luke running and falling only to rise again and run in an attempt to save his life.
