It was a balmy, early Sunday evening as Gregory arrived home from “I need to call Desiree,” Gregory said as he first pressed ‘242’, the area code prefix of the “Hello?” There was a pause as Desiree saw her caller ID box read ‘Gregory Watson’. A part of her wanted to speak yet a greater part simply wanted to hang up the phone. A cooler yet snide response prevailed. “The dead speaks once again.” “Desiree?” “Yes Gregory, it is me. How can I help you?” “Why are you so formal, Desiree?” “What do you expect after all this time? Me jumping up and down, screaming like crazy at the sound of your voice? You should be glad I am not cussing you out right now. I can do the Kelis and scream ‘I hate you so much right now’ but what good would that do?” “Desiree ---” “No, why you are calling?” “I don’t have an answer.” “That’s not good enough. I am going to ask you one more time and if you don’t give me a truthful response, you are going to be introduced to Mr. Click and I dare you to call me afterwards ever again.” “I wanted to hear your voice. I wanted to apologize for what happened to us twelve years ago. I want to say that I was just stupid. I want us to have another try.” “Is that it? Does this clear your conscience? You feel like a man now? You are most certainly sorry. What have you been smoking or drinking? After all this time, you finally want to talk. I really don’t need this. I want you to just leave me alone and get me out of your thoughts. Why don’t you go and talk to Aliesha or Andrea or your plethora of Spanish women?” “So, I am not the only one thinking about us. Truth be told, I wasn’t in love with them; I am still in love with you.”

About the Author
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the son of a Costa Rican mother and a Floridian father, Edward Benjamin Brown Jr. had long desired to be a published author. From his first attempt at writing baseball biographies at age ten to penning short stories and comedies for his personal consumption and entertainment of friends at Bronx High School of Science and Syracuse University to professional writing in various administrative capacities throughout his work career, writing has been in his blood. Following the death of his beloved Mother, who was also his biggest literary fan in 2000, Edward garnered his grief and wrote his first novel, I CAN RECALL AFTER ALL, a story dedicated to her memory. Edward is a proud alum of Syracuse University, warmly supported by loving family and close friends and currently working on his second novel.
