Pearl…
My darling pearl I love you more than this poor soul can tell
You lived your life for me my dear – and I did give you hell
My gambling ways and women affrays did tear your heart apart
I beat you down and left you out whilst fun and fair I sought
Then in my prime I did decline to note the warning signs,
When on that day you came to me with that funny little smile.
You looked at me and I did see your eyes so full of tears,
And the children I had left you with had added many years.
There you were all broken down, so old before your time
And I who had had so much fun – did look so very fine!
You came to me and whispered low, your heart you would avenge
And then with one almighty blow – my own life you did end.
Age
A photo to remind me of my youth
A glass on the bedside for my teeth
A mirror turned against the wall
So that I cant see
This little bag of wrinkly skin
That’s turned out to be me.
March Hare
In March the hare stood up
On legs so stout and strong,
He peered about with interest
At the crazy people throng.
Locked in a field with boxes of steel,
They milled about each other.
Greeting shouting laughing and haggling together.
A sunnier day you’ve never seen,
The sky as blue as the grass was green
And smelling sweet to boot.
He could sail across the hillside
On fast legs looking for loot,
Nibbling juicy shoots in the spring,
With nothing to carry or bring.
He cocked an ear that thoughtful hare
And for a moment did stare,
At all those people in busy play.
Then rolled his eyes in mild surprise,
And bounced off to enjoy the day.
