About the Author

Michael and Mary Lynn have been avid bird watchers and nature enthusiasts for years. They spend a great deal of time photographing what they see in their backyard. Michael enjoys sketching from their photos. They have had their writing and photography published in books, magazines, calendars, postcards, e-cards, and even on a billboard!

Two of their most rewarding accomplishments include being interviewed for and being included in the book “The Wildlife Gardner’s Guide to Hummingbirds and Songbirds from the Tropics” published 2003. Mary Lynn received the “Backyard Birder of the Month” award from WildBird magazine in 2004. She also wrote a feature article about birdscaping, with the focus on monarchs, milkweed, and Baltimore orioles which appeared in the September/October 2005 issue of WildBird magazine.

Mary Lynn worked at a K-2 elementary school library for 20 years. She has a biology degree with post graduate credits in environmental education and library science. She feels that the combination of her education and profession allowed a unique opportunity to foster and encourage awareness of nature among children at an early age. She enjoys combining her passion for children and nature through her backyard stories.

They live in Fairmont, Minnesota.
