                             A Child's Cry

A flash of light, a bang, a car speeds by.

A mother jumps to her feet at the sound of her child's cry.

Rushing out the door, a sight or terror on the street.

Lie bleeding her child at her feet.

Neighbors rush to the mother's aid.

Not breathing, too late to save.

Moments ago, riding her bike.

One minute of violence taking her life.

Caught in the middle of another gang fight.

So many questions no answers to bear.

A mother screams echo " Life's not fair!"

Turning our streets into a fire zone.

Keeping us all locked in our homes.

Who are these people, what gives them the right to control the streets, day and night?
