Later that night Katie laid in her bed as she listened to
the radio with the volume down just low enough to hear. She thought about that guy at the bar. The one with the nice eyes that smiled when he did. She wondered what his name was. Something strong and masculine she thought.
Katie wondered why he didn’t ask her to dance. He seemed interested. Maybe he was involved or married. She didn’t get to see his wedding ring finger. Most of all Katie wondered what made her keep thinking about him. Maybe she and Sue should go back to the bar tomorrow night at the same time and see if he would be there. She thought.
But she hoped the bar wasn’t his favorite place. Maybe he was there on a fluke like she was. Katie just wished she could shut off her brain. What good did it do to think about him anyway? She would probably never see him again. What did it mean? Maybe he awakened her hormones and it was time to find someone she wanted to love. Katie knew she had high standards. First and foremost he had to be an honest person. Someone who took life seriously but also took the time to play. One thought led to another. She wondered how Logan and Madison were doing. She thought about Logan and all the other ranch hands and their girlfriends that enjoyed the bonfires at the ranch on the cold winter nights. The snowmobile rides and hot cocoa. The countless snow angels that stayed all winter. She was really glad that her aunt Hailey and Jon rescued her. She thought about when she was in training to become a police officer. And then came Abbey and all the things they missed out on because she got railroaded that night. And then back to that guy. Why did he sexually arouse her and make her want to fall in love. No man has ever done that. Is that what happened to Abbey when she was only eighteen. No way, Katie thought; I would never have brought that man home and laid him not knowing him. And then Katie thought it would be great to lust the same man you were in love with.
Katie looked at the clock which was crawling up on 3: A.M.
She was glad that Sam wasn’t going to be working tomorrow because she planned on sleeping in.
Jeff tossed and turned in his bed. He looked at the clock that just passed 3: A.M. He listened to the radio with the volume down just low enough to hear. That girl’s eyes and smile were etched in his mind. He wondered if he should go back to the bar tomorrow night at the same time and see if she was there. And then he hoped she wasn’t a big fan of bars. Maybe she was there on a fluke like he was, he hoped. Jeff grew angry with himself that he couldn’t get her out his head. He wondered what her name was. One thought led to another but it always came back to her.
