About the Book
Growing with Prose is more than a small book of poetry: It encourages us to grow emotionally - and like it. While many novices to poetry are often discouraged by vague phrases and references, this treatise takes on a new approach, and invites even the previously disenchanted. It does this by providing a brief rekindling of the poem’s message. With this small enhancement, the meaning is less obscure, and becomes even more pleasurable with a second and third reading.
The publication journeys from young adulthood well into the senior years, but with frequent flashbacks to early youth, thereby providing the background for lessons brought forward.
The book provides fun and enjoyment, as well as many valuable lessons from which we can all derive benefit. It not only challenges us with desirable characteristic development, but provides problem-solving tools for remedy; the psychology entailed having provided comfort and solace throughout many generations.
The subject matter does not shirk from contemporary issues. It addresses abuse with its varied distortions; causes us to reflect seriously on our deteriorating values; illustrates what greed and neglect are doing to our environment.
Some of the poems are very thought provoking; others, playfully innocent, recalling memorable events long since vanished from our daily scene. It is appealing to both young and old, containing both hope and promise; providing potential for a new lease on life, coupled with a determined and rejuvenated spirit.
About the Author
About the Author: The author of this book was introduced to poetry at a very young age. The book that captured my imagination was A Child’s I was recovering from a childhood illness when hearing his fun loving portrayal, read to me at bedside by a loving father. The book was easily memorized before I could read. Parents delighted in my presentations of his poems before guests and family. As life progressed, the poems were somehow set aside in the hustle and bustle of maturing years, but never truly forgotten, nor my love of poetry. Later, as a ‘lark,’ a dear friend brought forth his limericks, inspiring a first involvement in the art, but little of a serious nature. College years presented assignments of walks in nature, calling for full description of sounds, sights and pleasures. Asking to record these impressions in verse resulted in a small grin, but agreement, and afterward, a true advocate who encouraged my pursuit of talent. Other experiences encountered as an intern in Psychiatric Social Work, working with handicapped and economically deprived children, as I obtained my dual degrees in Social Work and Special Education, broadened my horizons, developing a far deeper perspective of human emotion. This exposure, combined with lifetime experiences, prompted this publication. It is hoped that it will bring solace, wisdom and joy to all its readers. |
