Asphalt could feel brutally cold on a February morning. Lying on his back under the car, Tito tilted his head inside the hood of his coat and looked through his miniature binoculars at the handsome masonry house across the street. The sun was out and he had finally seen some movement inside. He had parked the car at a reasonable distance while it was still dark. Opening the passenger door, he had discreetly laid himself flat on the ground and slipped under the car. He began making periodic surveys of the Crespo home with his binoculars. He saw no trace of life. But as soon as the sun rose he noticed slow movements by a window, next to the front door. Someone was getting ready to come out.
