Are All Kids Created Equal?
I was forced to consider on one of my busy days
When an ambulance like a bully pushed me out of the way
I stared and considered like a curious child
A man who had not bathed or showered in a while
In spite of his hardships he blessed me with a smile
My heart sank into my chest
While asking myself have I given my best?
That smile answered what should have been so plain to me
What was obviously right before me, to see, and to be—or not to be?
Was more then a question
Or what was important to me like my reputation
This was serious
We travel from home to work oblivious
With details in life that envelop us
These children abused
Mistreated, misused
Cold, alone, lost and confused
Again my heart sank into my chest
While asking myself still, have I given my best?
Without any guidance or direction
From those able to aid with this societal aberration
No shelter or protection
From society or natures oppression
Atrocities seen outside of the dome and arena
Is not something new that just happen with Katrina
I wrote this in a poem
With the hope that it just might show them
And affect a positive change
In them that can make a change
To change the things that needs to be changed
I have three final questions then I’ll put this to rest
If we were at judgment would our heart pass the test?
Have we given our all?
Have we given our best?
The reason my heart sank so deep in my chest
Is because I already knew the answer, to have I given my best?

In order to look to the future he then reveals the “Knowledge from our Past” and speaks to build awareness and character. Finally, he dares you to “Read Between the Lines” and remove the blinders from your eyes to see life as it is.
Reflecting on topics in society, professing his intimate relationship with God, and exploring the intricacies of life, Earl evokes a sense of connection to his readers like no other.

About the Author
Born in Cincinnati, OH (17 Oct 1971), to Earl Sr. and Anna. Earl was raised an Air Force dependant. He is a graduate of Surrattsville High School located in Clinton MD (1990), and Lincoln Technical Institute for Automotive Technology in Landover MD (1992). and for Maryland Real Estate in (2005).
Joined the Army National Guard (Sept 2001). Earl became a proud father of his son Joel (Oct 2001). He is now Active Guard/Reserve serving as a Staff Sergeant (Survey Team Chief) in a specialized hazmat unit, in Washington DC. He is currently pursuing a degree at the University of Maryland, for Forensic Science. Writing has always been a passion, and now the very notebook that has offered a voice to internal emotion and an outlet for thoughts; can now be viewed…
