A COTTON PICKING SHAME Through blood, sweat and tears Oppressed for four hundred and thirty five years We all need somebody to lean on Fertilize the tree and keep the roots strong Pikaninnie working the cotton field Overseer said "I'll make you a good deal" "If you work as hard as you work the field, in my house The same food I eat will be in your mouth" Little Hymie left his friends and family And moved into a world of vanity To end up in a state of insanity They made him work real hard for the master It was like a good life sentence, on and after Clean linens, clean clothes and a fresh bath Sometimes he gets so happy he just laughs Not thinking about those he left behind Picking cotton night and day eating nothing but swine He even said he was better than the cotton picker Because they call him by name and not little nigger So he wondered what happened to the house nigger that worked before me He must have worked so good that the master set him free If I please my master maybe I'll get my freedom card The next time my master let me beat a slave I'll whip him extra hard So he whipped some and hung some from a tree He said he will do anything for the dream of being free The young brother didn't think about the law of gravity What goes up must come down Or the three hundred and sixty degrees What goes around comes around Now years gone past, the house nigger is now an old man The master said "I give him an order and he looks like he don't understand" He's just old and worthless like a fruit gone rotten So the master ordered the house nigger back to picking cotton Back on the fields where he started from He looked for his friends but he had none When he died he left as an old lonely man Someone who forgot he was and African All he wanted was to succeed, he didn't mean no harm Institutionalized by an oppressed system he became an Uncle Tom The moral to this story is plain It's OK to climb the ladder but don't forget from where you came And never burn the bridges that you cross Cause you might try to go back and get lost Do unto others as you would have them do unto you And try to help those who are still picking cotton too Cause you never miss your water until your wells dry And you don't want to be old and lonely before you die.

About the Author
I grew up in the project in Brockton mass out side of boston mass in the gutter, surrounded by drugs pimps whores and hustlers. Our house was the party house,card games gambling shooting and stabbings. By the age of 14 year old I was addicted to armed robberies, . I’ve been involved with guns, drugs, At 16 years old I was on probation for3 to 5 and 5 to 7 years. At 16.5 I was doing hard time in Walpole State Prison. I grew up in prison, thats were I became a man. I served a 3 to 5 and a 5 to 7 -
I’m a grown man now and since I been out of prison , I’m living the dream of success. Success to me is no more crime, no more time.i started a youth program ,Become Won inc. Which stands for Bridging endless community oppression, mentoring educating and winning our neighborhoods, We mentor the youth to stay away from gangs, drugs, and violence
I’m a strong believer in change. I believe if we reach just one, teach just one, that we can make a positive change in our community.
I took the hand that life dealt to me ,and played it to my best ability, My prayer is that this book can change a young life, please read this book and pass it on.
