The Road to Career Success and Happiness

INTRODUCTION

Having a successful career and being happy at the same time is not an easy feat but extremely important. Many people may have successful careers but are very stressed and unhappy in their work environment. Others may not be as successful as they would like and as a result are very unhappy.  With all the demands and challenges that come your way such as office politics, work stress, etc., you sometimes may feel that attaining both is not possible. But it is!

After years of working in different companies and getting exposed to different organizational cultures and management styles, I accumulated a lot of knowledge about what to do and what not to do. Each position that I held helped add to this knowledge. As a subordinate I learned about variety of ways to succeed. I also gained a lot of skills and learned a lot as a manager and a director of large organizations.  I believe this knowledge will be very beneficial to others who aspire to succeed and be happy.  I decided to write this book with the objective of making this knowledge available to everyone in an easy and accessible form. The book is written in bullet format so that you, the reader, can save time.

The book is divided into five parts. The first part deals with personal skills. The personal skills section describes the skills needed for success. These skills include how to secure a job, maintain mental positive attitude, and build a great reputation. These skills will enhance your personal growth.

The second part deals with work related skills. These work related skills cover key topics such as project management, effective delegation, problem solving, and good presentation skills.  These skills are essential to have for ensuring successful and productive careers.

The third part deals with product and service skills. In this section key issues such as identifying trends, core competency, core technology and global competitors are discussed. Knowing how to use these skills will help you gain greater perspective for a great career.

The fourth part deals with interpersonal skills. In this section very important topics are discussed that enhance the ability to deal with people, deal with office politics, and deal with managers. By learning all these skills you will get a better insight to what is happening around you, so that you are better equipped to handle a variety of situations.

Finally, the last part offers some concluding remarks.

I am sure you will find the book very useful and a good reference to go back to whenever an issue arises or whenever a second opinion is needed. This book is truly based on my observation, experience, reading, and the training I received throughout my career.
