About the Book
All That I Am, I Owe To God, is the real me. It is the story of some parts of my life that almost killed me, but by the Grace of God, I survived. I asked that you, as the reader, do not dwell on the addiction, the abuse or the infidelity. But that you look deeper to see how God's intervention changed my life.
My prayer for this book has always been that someone is helped by reading my book. That some young woman, who may not be so young anymore, who as a child may have suffered from low self esteem or felt as if she just did not fit in, this book is for you to let you know that you are not alone, saved or unsaved, Christian or non-Christian, You are not alone.
About the Author
My name is Elaine Gates and I have a passion for writing. I was born in 1954 and raised in a small town in New Jersey called Neptune during the Civil Rights Era. I grew up watching Black and White television shows ; such as Father Knows Best, the Donna Reed Show ; The Big Valley and so many more. My favorite actress was Betty Davis because she poured out her soul in every character she ever portrayed.
I started out by writing Poems. My first one was entitled "Unconditional Love" followed by my second poem, entitled "God's Masterpiece", which was done to help my daughter with a writing project she had while in High School. I have read my poetry at several venues such as El Lobo Negro, an Art Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ as well as The Jamesburg Library in Jamesburg, NJ. One of my favorite poems that I wrote is entitled "In My Son's Pockets", which was dedicated to my youngest son when he was five years old and was based on all of the things I would find in his pockets.
I have also written several Plays, which have been performed by the Drama Ministry of my church.
I am a divorced mother of three; Damian, Elonda and Darryl and a recent grandmother of one. My life has been one interesting journey, which just happens to be the name of my precious little grandaughter Journee Lee.
