We all have something inside us that makes us tick – something that makes us say, “this is what I was made for”. Some have already identified that thing, and others are still looking for it. No matter. Regardless of whether we know it or not, we do what we are made to do; we can’t help it!
As for God, what makes Him tick? What is it that makes Him say “this is what I was made for”? Of course, God wasn’t made. He just is. I guess the question might be rephrased: What is it that makes Him say “this is why I AM”? I believe God exists to glorify Himself. Just look around; can’t you just see it in the beauty of His creation? The breathless and gentle beauty of a woman, the majesty of the mountains, the vastness of the ocean, and everything in between - all reveal amazing expressions of the greatest artist that has ever existed. When beholding stars in a canyon sky so vast and numerous, you’d think the sky was peppered with wonderful light. With mighty cumulus clouds so intense and full, your mind twists at trying to figure out how they can possibly float in mid-air. Sometimes it’s just beautiful. But sometimes I’m convinced that God’s just showing off.
It’s His glory - and just a shadow of it! Because more than this, when He walks into the room - in the silent mystery of the momentous - it’s like time stands still. And what is it that makes us take notice but the very awareness of Him - of His glory? You can feel it in the soul that God is awesome beyond words. And we worship Him in the wonder of it all - standing up with arms raised to an air that is charged beyond that of any electrical current - face plowed into the floor because it seems to be the only appropriate response. Or even…
Engaging that man with a harrowed face, sitting at the street corner – broken and hopeless. Showing the beaten woman that she still deserves honor and respect, simply because she is God’s creation. Smiling at a child who is afraid in the hospital, and holding his hand in reassurance. These are the times when we become pipes – veritable conduits for the Almighty’s glory. Or maybe…
When we cross the finish line in a race for which we have trained since we were a child. When we sing in an opera with a finely tuned and disciplined voice. When we are teachers, doctors, carpenters, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. Living life, if we truly live it and not treat it cheaply, is also the thing that glorifies God. Let us grow ourselves up to be who the Creator has created us to be.
And in this ambitious endeavor we are doing the very thing that makes us tick – we are glorifying God. May the words and visions in this book increase and encourage you in your awareness of what makes you tick.

Isabel Castaneda's passion for Arts began before she came to the USA in 1992 and could speak any English. Isabel is originally from Peru and presently is a fine arts painter who resides in Northern Virginia. She uses her God-given talent to communicate the beauty and the amusement of art through her paintings.
Roy Petersen is a full time media director who lives in England. In addition to producing comedy shorts, training films and documentaries, he creates sketches and chalk pastel works that communicate the dreamy imagination of His children.
