Apple Dip

(The ingredients for each recipe are listed using the word "ingredient" like a partial acrostic poem.)

   1.                pineapple juice (to cover apples)

    2.     white sugar (1/2 cup)

    3.                cream cheese (8 oz. pkg.)

    4.           apples (as needed)

                        d

     5.           vanilla (1 tsp.)

     6.      brown sugar (3/4 cup)

(The recipe directions are in poetic form - this should be in quatrains but this computer program won't let me be that creative!  It is correct in the book.)

*Picking apples in the fall

Could be a family event.

Bringing home a bushel or two

Meant smells that were heaven sent.

*But we couldn't wait for cooking,

We wanted to eat right away.

So first we often dipped them,

Saving cooking for another day.

*First we'd core the apples,

With or without the skins.

In pineapple juice we'd place them,

Then making the dip we'd begin.

*One soft package of cream cheese,

Mix in sugars, brown and white.

Finally we added the vanilla,

Then mix 'til smooth and right.

*This yummy dip we'd devour,

So our fingers would often get sticky.

Some of it always got on our clothes,

So doing the laundry was tricky.

*My mother never said, "What a mess!"

Though my father often did.

So whenever things got too messy,

From my father they were hid.
