About the Book
This book is a collection of poetry. Each were written individually at seperate times in my life. They have been put together from my earliest pieces to my newest symbolizing my thirty years. Some of the pieces are sad, some are happy, while others can be devastating. Regardless of the emotional rollercoaster, each one is part of my life. These writings are simply lyrics, written out emotions, thoughts and ideas representative of how I felt at a certain time in my life. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
About the Author
I never wrote these lyrics thinking they would someday be in a book. Many were written years ago and took residence in my notebooks. My writing is influenced by lyrics and music, more so than actual poetry. If I could play an instrument, these lyrics would be songs. They are simply words written out from my mind, to my hand to the paper. The first poem I wrote was No Longer. Since then my poetry has developed into a "play on words", "The meaning behind dreams", "The what ifs of our lives." While at other times I have no idea what I will write, I just start scribbling on a piece of paper.
The title of the book was my second idea for the cover. I wanted to showcase symbolism on the cover as I did in the book. The spiral staircase (Of My Life) leading upward to a beautiful platform and bridge, and an amazing sky above. The pillars holding up the bridge are "rocky" and then give way to white smooth walls with a small light attached. Flowers at the base of the stairs, reminding me, it was never that bad.
Many of these poems were written from May-September, of 2001. I traveled through Europe with friends and had many lonely hours on trains, in hostels and hotels when I would just start writing to pass the time. There are 2 poems that are extremely special to me, written in Scotland.
I cannot explain my thought process when writing, I cannot tell you of a certain time when I write, I only need a tiny thought to propel myself into the writing process. Honestly, the more music I listen to, the more I want to write.
