FEATHER
A feather is a wondrous thing
--Perhaps a pen that writes the song
That causes all the world to sing
Or fights the fight that rights a wrong.
A feather is a hopeful thing
That lifts a bird or soul up high
With faith that only hope can bring
To make our hungry spirits fly.
A feather is a useful thing
That guides the arrow straight and true,
And gives us warmth from fall to spring
When all the world begins anew.
A thing of wonder, hope and truth,
That gives the wings to dreams of youth.
HOMING
She's left the city far behind
--Country girl is going home.
All day she's driven through the rain
But now at last she's in the lane,
Ancestral acres all around,
And sudden truth invades her mind.
She'd know this place though she were blind.
It almost seems like hallowed ground.
A thunderbolt lights up the blue,
Ignites a knowing, deep and true,
The universe revolves around
This place that's gentle on her mind.
Winter wisdom in the gloaming
While the country girl is homing.

About the Book
To me, sunshine means life, warmth, happiness, love, faith, and enduring strength. The poems in this book are about those things that bring me sunshine. They are the poems of my life and were written from the teens and into my 70's. I hope that my poetry will witness my faith, my love for my family, my love for America, the happiness of living in the Ozarks, and how blessed my life has been. If I could live my life over, I wouldn't change a thing.
About the Author
I began writing poetry as a teenager, not because I wanted to--it was just there. My first publication was at age 18 and my work has appeared in nearly a hundred publications, including Grit, Capper's, Ozarks Mountaineer, Rural Heritage, Mature Living, Country Woman, The Mountain Laurel, Ag-Pilot International, Boots, Advocate, The Pleiades, Sunshine Magazine, and several small poetry journals like Tucumcari Literary Review, The Pegasus Review, Candor Magazine, etc. My poetry reflects my faith, my love of my husband and family, my love of the Ozarks where I live, and the sunshine in my life. I have also published a few short stories and a series of articles about different forms of poetry. I have written four novels, but the poetry is what I think God wants me to be doing. Whatever talent I have is a gift, and I have an obligation to share that gift with the world.
