I shall start my life story with one of my earlier memories . I remember I was only a small child and I was sitting on a old wooden chair which drowned me in size as I was only a small unnourished child, I remember the house was very damp and cold, the house was very basic as we did not have much money. I remember looking down and noticing something sticking from my knee, it was a sore red lump, my father noticed me looking and touching the red lump as I was very concerned about it, I was very curious to what this thing was bulging out my little frail leg. I never would have told my father, due to the fact I was very scared of him and his reactions if I told him. Father glared at me with his mysterious eyes. As he turned round he started approaching me suddenly and slowly across the cold floor boards. When he approached me he glared down at me and I looked up into his piercing eyes, he picked me up like a rag doll, I was all skin and bones. Staying silent as I was unsure what was going to happen. Father marched into the kitchen with me under his arm, as I looked into his face there was no expression, just silence. He looked at me like he had just picked up a lifeless piece of wood, he had no compassion for me at all. As we entered the kitchen dad lumped me onto a ruff and hard table which was placed in the middle of the room. Still unsure as what dad was going to do I froze like ice. Next dad went and picked up a bread knife, I was hoping and praying dad was going to cut of a slice of bread and give it to me but that was unlike my dad. Dad proceeded and cut the lump of my knee, it was a unbelievable pain I can not explain. As I fought the pain it got to much and slowly tears fell from my big brown eyes, one by one the tears escaped running down my little pale cheeks. I never screamed or made a noise as I would not let dad have the pleasure of hearing me in pain, I was far too strong minded even as a little child, but that was the one thing that got me threw my saddening ordeals. I never knew why dad was always so cruel to me but knowing no different I thought this was normal treatment. There was blood running of the knife onto my knee like heavy rain and dad just glared at me as if to say what he had just done was a good thing, and he expected me say thank you. Father then put the knife down, turned his back on me and slowly walked into the next room to return to mother and left me to slowly get over the pain.

About the Book
A personal recollection of a young Girl, growing up in Cambridgeshire and how she suffered, cruelty and abuse , and how she witnessed cruelty to her Mother and the Animals in the Family. By a Monster of a Father, It also tells of some of the good times she experienced and how she made the most of the simple things in life. It also tells about how she learnt to cope and pull through and to grow up and lead a happy and normal life. It acts as an inspiration to others in this situation to try and pull through and find that light at the end of the tunnel.
About the Author
Valerie Ann Hobbs was born on the 20th May 1950 in Ely,Cambridgeshire. At 18 she married her first Husband. Over the next 18 years she lived on 8 Different farms as her Husband could'nt settle for long. During this time Valerie Worked in various jobs as well as bringing up 4 children. She worked at the Palace School in Ely, She worked her way up to Head cook. She then moved to Ely Golf Club where she become Stewardess and in charge of the facility. When her Husband moved yet again, she then went into Nursing caring for Terminally ill people. Valerie then had enough of moving around and not being able to settle, she then got a Divorce. She then moved to Great Cornard in Suffolk, Where she met and married her Present Husband Roger. She has now been living in Suffolk for 24 Years, and has had 2 more children. Gemma and Thomas and has settled at last. She has 2 Dogs, Lucky and Little Winnie, and a grumpy old cat called Bobby. Valerie has various Hobbies including Cycling,Swimming and Dancing. She is generally a Happy,Bubbly and Determined person. Valerie took along time to decide to write her book, as her father was still alive and she didnt want to stir up a wasps nest, but when he died 2 years ago, Valerie made her decision to go ahead with her book, to help other people in the situation, of abuse to cope with their lives and Learn To Love Not To Hate.
